ROBINS conclude their regular-season commitments in Norfolk tonight - but reserve Charles Wright is already starting to think about the Elite League play-offs.

Swindon travel to King’s Lynn Stars this evening for their final meeting before the end-of-season shake-up, although it could turn into something of a damp squib.

The Robins have already booked their place in the play-offs but will be eager to maintain their momentum following Monday’s draw away at table toppers Poole, while King’s Lynn cannot qualify even with victory.

Wright expected Poole to plump to face Coventry Bees in the play-offs, pitting the Robins against Belle Vue Aces, and it will be crucial to keep confidence up ahead of their match-up with the Manchester outfit on Monday.

“Everyone knows who is in the play-offs now so we will just see what happens and hopefully we can do the business,” said Wright, who also rides for Somerset Rebels in the Premier League.

“I’ve been with Somerset quite a few years now, so I know what riding in a play-off situation is all about.

“We made it through again this year as we finished second in the Premier League, so I know what that pressure is all about. I will cope with it well.

“King’s Lynn are not going to get through now so that’s just another meeting and another pay day.”

Wright could not be heading for the Stars showdown in better form, having collected a more than respectable nine-point haul at Wimborne Road on Monday evening.

The 26-year-old got off to a slow start on the south coast with two points from his first two rides, but after finding a set-up that best suited him he left the Pirates in his wake with two victories in his next three runnings.

“I was struggling with my set-up at the start but I changed it and it worked out for me and was miles better,” said Wright.

“I stuck with that and it’s amazing what you can do with a bike when it’s set up right. I had good speed in the end.

“You are always learning, I think every rider is learning.

“The top riders obviously know a bit more but you’ve got to try to learn off them and learn from yourself as well to know what the bike is doing underneath you.”

While Scott Nicholls comes in to replace Danish ace Peter Kildemand in the Robins line-up, newly-crowned Premier League riders champion Ulrich Ostergaard will ride for King’s Lynn against his former club tonight.

Ostergaard comes in for Australian Sam Masters, who suffered a shoulder injury while riding for Leicester in the Elite League on Monday.
