THE HOME defeat by Burton Albion last weekend was a very demoralising experience for every one of the Town supporters that were present – I’m sure many shared the feeling that the playing tempo was slow and uninspiring, and the successes of last season seemed a distant memory.

We’ve continued to see a modern style of football that pleases some and antagonises others – but we have to remember that on past performance, over the longer term, this style has paid off – delivering some scintillating displays in the last year.

For this reason we all need to stay patient and give whatever support we can. Our home results have been less than spectacular this season and so it’s time for us as supporters, to step up our game.

Let’s not watch idly. The style we play does not necessarily encourage the edge-of-the-seat passionate support we need, but as fans we should try and play our part and give our boys the vocal advantage they sometimes need.

Aside from a few key fixtures, namely Bristol City and the play-offs, the atmosphere at home matches has been sadly lacking for some time. This is an area that we as supporters can help.

Let’s do what we can to get the matches started off in the right way. It’s often the minutes building up to kick-off that set the atmosphere, and at kick-off itself we should be hearing a crescendo of noise.

It’s not easy, but we have seen over the years that when we join together as a collective force we can make a fantastic noise that will inspire the team to great heights and drown out the very best of away support.

One of our objectives is to use the Red Army Fund to deliver greater fan engagement, and to build the pre-match atmosphere – here a little bit of money can go a long way.

Please sign up to the Red Army Fund via www.redarmyfund.co.uk and give whatever you can comfortably afford so we can work towards building support and improving the matchday experience.
