LUKE Williams fears on-loan goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux may not play for Swindon Town again this season because of a leg injury.

Vigouroux, who is on a season-long loan at the County Ground from Premier League side Liverpool, has not featured since the 2-2 draw at home to Millwall on March 12.

The 22-year-old was initially diagnosed with a dead leg in the aftermath of that game but last week Town head coach Williams revealed the injury was more severe than first thought and Vigouroux had to have a blood clot removed from a muscle.

Vigouroux sat out his sixth straight match during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Bradford City and in the aftermath of the game, Williams revealed that it is looking unlikely the keeper will be fit to return to action before the end of the season.

If that is the case, Vigouroux will have played his final game for the club unless Town revive their attempts to sign him on a permanent basis over the summer.

“I think it might be in the balance at the moment,” Williams told BBC Wiltshire.

“I didn’t think that would be the case but it’s looking increasingly like that might be the case, that he doesn’t feature.”

Vigouroux’s chances of playing again this season appear to be diminishing but boss Williams hopes to see midfielder Yaser Kasim pull on a Town shirt again before the curtain comes down on the campaign.

The Iraq international has been sidelined since February 6 because of knee ligament injury but has recently returned to training.

The six-to-eight week period that was first put on Kasim’s recovery time has now passed, with the 24-year-old having missed Town’s last 11 games.

Just five matches remain of the 2015-16 campaign and Williams is eager to get Kasim involved again as soon as possible.

“We saw Yaser train, which was fantastic – he looked very bright in training, so we’re hoping that he’s not too far off,” added Williams.

“Of course, he’ll need some time to adjust to playing 90 minutes’ competitive football in League One but we hope that he’ll be joining the squad on a matchday very soon.”
