SWINDON Supermarine sauntered into the semi-finals of the Wiltshire Senior Cup by thrashing Downton last night.

Dave Webb’s side put their Wessex League visitors to the sword at the Webbswood Stadium to keep themselves on course in the county cup, with Josh Parsons notching a hat-trick, Brad Hooper bagging a brace and Connor Waldon also getting in on the act in a 6-1 cakewalk.

Highworth Town will be looking to join Marine in the semi-final of the Wiltshire Senior Cup when they host Western League Premier Division side Bradford Town in a repeat of the 2015 final, which the Worthians won 2-1, tonight (kick-off 7.45pm).

Jeff Roberts’ side, who are fifth in the Hellenic League Premier Division, suffered their first defeat in six matches as they were beaten by Thatcham Town last weekend.

Elsewhere, Fairford Town also secured some cup progress of their own on Tuesday night as they upset Premier Division Henley Town to reach the quarter-finals of the Hellenic League Floodlit Cup.

Nathan Blackford had an early spot-kick saved as Gareth Davies’ men looked to take advantage of their visitors’ late arrival due to traffic problems and Henley went on to steal a march through Lewis Hood, although Ben Saunders would restore parity.

Josh Morse’s penalty then won the day for Fairford in the second period.

  • ROYAL Wootton Bassett manager Rich Hunter is determined for his side to progress in the Floodlit Cup this evening.

The Gerard Buxton Sports Ground men entertain Lydney Town (kick-off 7.45pm) as they look to build on their 4-0 over Henley Town success at the weekend.

However, Hunter, who took charge at the end of August after the departure of Paul Braithwaite, wants something to show for this season’s efforts.

“We want to win a cup and that is why will be giving it our all against Lydney,” Hunter said.

“This is the only competition that we are left in, so we want to make sure we do well.”
