I AM sat here at my keyboard, scratching my head, not knowing what to write. This season has, to say the least, been a difficult and frustrating one for all concerned. The injection of new players during January has still to make an impact.
The last two results have been hard to swallow. The losses are bad enough, but the fact that it is in two local derbies, leaves an even more bitter taste. Although we lost those games, in the grand scheme of things, it’s not the end of the world.
Time is running out. Town have just 16 games left to play. Yet it is the next run of seven games that is paramount to Town’s League One survival.
We face Bury, Northampton, Oldham, Coventry, Gillingham, Chesterfield, and Port Vale. All the other clubs in the relegation battle. These really are must-win games.
Before the Bolton Wanderers game, I said that we needed another 24 points for safety. Well we picked up three in that game. Since then, nothing. We still need around 21 more points and the majority of those points have to come from the next seven games, as I can only see us getting another 3 or 4 points in the games that come after.
Remember that points per game ratio? Town’s ratio has now increased to 1.43 points per game to have any chance. 21 points from the remaining 16 games. Seven wins will do it, especially against the teams around us.
Seven wins from 16 games. A tall order? Maybe. We have only won 7 in the last 30 this season. Positive vibes everybody, all is not lost. Yet.
