SWINDON men’s first team maintained their fine start to the season as they defeat Bristol Uni A 4-1 in Conference North.

Against the run of play, the hosts took the lead through Tom Wickens before Thomas Gillingham doubled Swindon’s advantage shortly before the interval following a great surging run from the midfield.

The second half saw Swindon step up a gear and goals from Thomas Lentschner and Wickens saw them go 4-0 up before the students grabbed a late short-corner consolation goal.

Swindon captain Tom Goldsmith said: “It was a good team performance even though we were missing a couple of players. We got lucky with some early umpiring decisions and mistakes from experienced players but we got the win and the three points.”

The ladies’ first team had to settle for a share of the spoils following their 1-1 draw at Bournemouth in Premier 2A.

Swindon started the match on the front foot and created a chance when some fine link-up play by the midfield led to Gemma Scrase firing a pass into Chloe Lewis who fired the ball just wide of the post.

After the break, Swindon saw Adriana Boullosa and Linda Brouwers receive green cards, while the hosts also had two players seeing green.

Bournemouth took the lead in the final 10 minutes of the match.

However, Swindon quickly responded to this with some fine play. Shona O’Dwyer found Angela Cooke who slotted the ball home from close range to claim the draw.

In Wessex Division One, Swindon 2nd claimed a 3-0 win over Salisbury 3rd.
