WILTSHIRE county player Lee Evans lost a last-leg decider against Chris Dobey to see his UK Open quest come to an end in the second round over the weekend.

The competition, held at Butlin’s in Minehead, is viewed as the FA Cup of darts, with the top 32 players in the PDC Order of Merit given no seeding protection.

Evans was handed a tough first assignment against Dimitri Van den Bergh but recorded a stunning 6-3 victory over the Belgian, who reached the quarter-finals of the PDC World Championship back in December.

The 28-year-old, from Kempsford near Crickalde, was drawn against fellow Englishman Dobey in the next round but bowed out in agonising fashion as his rival took the deciding 11th leg to triumph 6-5.

The defeat meant Evans was unable to match his best performance at the tournament, which came when he reached the third round in both 2015 and 2016.
