PADDY Fitzpatrick’s fighters suffered mixed results over the weekend as Ryan Martin, Harry Webb, Bec Connolly and Sam Smith were all involved in scheduled bouts.

Martin, Webb and Connolly were all out in Bristol, but Smith was forced to pull out of his Bracknell contest on Sunday, after he suffered whiplash in a car accident on Saturday morning.

In Bristol, it was good news for both Martin and Webb as they were able to extend their records to 10-2 and 4-0 respectively.

Martin, who fought at middleweight, dispatched his opponent after the opening round while Webb recorded a points victory.

Connolly endured a tough night, she was on the wrong end of a points decision, meaning her record stands at one win and two defeats in three outings.

“Sam had a shunt in the car on Saturday morning coming back from a job with his dad and had a bit of whiplash,” said Fitzpatrick.

“He wasn’t able to hold his head properly, his neck had tightened up so he had to pull out at the last second.”

The Swindon trainer says his other trio left him with a lot to think about in the coming weeks.

“Becs was first up and she just wasn’t there. It wasn’t the Becs we had been seeing in the gym,” he added.

“She was falling short, getting caught and the score did reflect the fight. It was three rounds to one in the other girl’s favour.

“Harry had an exceptional fight with a very tough young man and Harry was always ahead through the fight.

“It was an excellent educational fight. I went and thanked him afterwards, he brought a different look for Harry.

“They went at it. Sometimes Harry sat against the ropes for too long, but he went to the body and head excellently with the hooks.

“I felt bad for Ryan, he was against a middleweight and the guy quit at the end of the first round.

“Ryan did exactly what he needed to. As soon as Ryan landed a good jab on him he didn’t want much to do with it.

“For me, he didn’t want to come out for more.”
