SWINDON'S Delta Tennis Centre has been named as one of a Local Player Development Centre by the Lawn Tennis Association.

The Westlea base will be one of 50 such centres in the country, serving as a pathway to 11 Regional Plater Development Centres and two National Academies as part of the LTA's 10 year performance strategy for British Tennis.

The local centres will provide training for young children, with those with the greatest potential progressing their tennis development at one of the regional centres.

The national academies, based at Loughborough and Stirling will take players onto the next stage, the pathway ending with a Pro-Scholarship Programme for those capable of reaching the world's top 100.

The local centres, including Delta, start operating from September.

LTA’s chief executive Scott Lloyd said: “We are delighted to announce our 50 LPDCs that represent the first step on a seamless player pathway and will create opportunities for young players to develop their tennis talents.''
