MORE than a dozen ambitious youngsters dreaming of making a career in football received a confidence boost last week when the Swindon Primary Schools FA U11s district team was selected.

Twelve players and six reserves were picked by U11s team manager Steve Beale, who in the past has worked with the likes of now professionals Billy Bodin, Tom Smith and Joseph Mills.

The team, which will play between 25 and 30 matches against other sides from across the country, was selected following a trial period attended by more than 120 players.

Teams including Plymouth, Stevenage, Gloucester and Newbury will now travel to the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground in Royal Wootton Bassett – the U11s’ home venue – for the 2018-19 season.

This year marks the 45th season of the club’s existence and manager Beale – who took charge of his 500th game at the end of last year – is hoping for more success this time around.
