WALCOT ABC's up-and-coming ring stars were recognised as Swindon's County Ground Hotel hosted the club's end-of-season awards ceremony, writes DAVE VEYSEY.

This year’s Best Senior Boxer trophy, previously won by the likes of Commonwealth Games gold medallist and world title challenge Jamie Cox, was presented to Rahim Nanji, who enjoyed an unbeaten season.

The 24 year old will be trying to emulate Cox by attempting to win the Senior England ABA Boxing Championships next season.

The Best Junior Boxer title was presented to Bill Harris, 15, who reached the national semi-finals of the Schoolboy Championships.

Sixteen year old Hannah O’Brien won the Best Club Girl award, as Fion James,13, won the male equivalent, after achieving three victories last season.

Twenty one year old Shahrukh Nanji won the Most Improved Boxer trophy.

Achievement awards went to Taylor Kelly, Leo Morris, Sammy Harris, Jai Khairi, Sadie Harris, Poppy Dingwell, Manjeet Bharj, Bolton Fernandes and Alex Masters.

Chief coach Harry Scott said: “We have some talented youngsters coming through the ranks, and it’s nice to see them receiving an award for their efforts.

"I must thank my fellow coaches and our committee for their hard work this season, especially coach Dan Hughes who does all of our match-making and our wonderful chairman John McGrath.”
