SWINDON Robins must win tonight’s SGB Premiership meeting against Leicester Lions if they are to secure a play-off spot, according to team manager Alun Rossiter.

The Lions, who made four team changes midway through July, are without a win since the start of last month and have lost six meetings on the bounce – three of those being at home - as well as Monday night's 56-34 reverse at Wolverhampton.

It’s a bitter record for Simon Stead’s men, whose chances of reaching the end-of-season play-offs are now incredibly slim as the Premiership’s top six look set to battle over the remaining four spots in the next month.

But despite the visitors’ poor form, Rossiter insists the Lions will be treated with the same respect as any other club.

“We treat everybody in the league with the respect they deserve,” said Rossiter.

“We’ll be doing the same when Leicester come to town, but we need three points and I expect three points.

“What you expect and what you get are two different things, though.

“We’ve got to make sure we bring our a-game and not our away form.”

Despite being top of the SGB Premiership table throughout large parts of the season, Robins’ position in the top four is far from secure.

Early away wins at Poole and Leicester catapulted Rossiter’s troops to the summit of the table in the early stages of the campaign, but a run of nine away meetings without a win, plus a home loss to Somerset, have put Robins’ play-off hopes in doubt.

Rossiter admits his side must win all four of their remaining home meetings if they are to stand a chance of reaching the play-offs.

He said: “We’ve got to make sure we win. If we lose one meeting at home, then I don’t think we’ll make the play-offs.

“We know how important it is and we need to get some points in our last two away meetings as well to make things a little easier for ourselves.”

One positive for the Robins ahead of tonight’s meeting is the return of skipper Nick Morris, who missed last week’s trip to Somerset after suffering from severe bruising following a series of heavy crashes at the Abbey Stadium.

The Australian raced to 13 points from five rides on his return to the saddle for Lakeside in their Championship clash against Ipswich though, form that encouraged the Robins boss.

Rossiter said: “Nick was pretty battered and bruised, I saw the bruising on his pelvis and leg – it was really blue in fairness to him.

“It was good for him to be in the points at Lakeside on his return.

“Hopefully he’ll come back focussed and ready to hit the ground running.”
