DAVID Bellego’s efforts while racing for France at the World Team Long Track Championships have been praised by Swindon Robins' team boss Alun Rossiter.

Bellego roared to score 13 points from his rides in Morizes, France, on Saturday as the host nation scooped the World Championship trophy with Dmitri Berge and Mattius Tresarrieu providing able support – scoring 22 and 19 points respectively.

France’s efforts ensured Team Great Britain – which included James Shanes, Chris Harris and Robins' Adam Ellis and Zach Wajtknecht – trailed the eventual winners by 10 points with Germany finishing third.

Reacting to the 25-year-old’s world championship success, Swindon team manager Rossiter said Bellego has been a key character in the Robins camp this season.

“David (Bellego) hasn’t had as good a season as he did last year, but we know what he’s capable of and understand a couple of tracks in the league aren’t his favourite,” said Rossiter.

“The banter between him and Troy Batchelor has been funny all season, and that’s been good for the team.

“Team spirit has been high, we’ve just lacked that little bit of consistency.

“David is a good guy and I'm delighted for him. It must have been an emotional occasion in his home country to step up to the podium as a world champion.”

Meanwhile the Robins return to SGB Premiership action on Thursday night at the Abbey Stadium for their final league meeting of the season this year against Belle Vue Aces.

The meeting’s importance hinges on the result from Wednesday night’s Premiership clash between the Aces and Somerset Rebels at the National Speedway Stadium.

Rossiter’s troops must hope in-form Somerset defeat Belle Vue to take the destiny of the final play-off spot down to the final race night.

Should Somerset win, Robins would then need to beat Belle Vue by seven points or more to secure a spot in the top four, while also hoping Wolverhampton Wolves fail to record what would be a shock away win at Poole.

Elsewhere, the date for Robins’ home leg of the Knockout Cup semi-final tie against King’s Lynn Stars has been confirmed as Monday, September 10.
