SWINDON Town Ladies boss Dan Jones believes his side must focus on themselves ahead of facing Poole Town at Fairford Town's Cinder Lane ground on Sunday, writes SAM HILL.

Jones’s side started the season off with two consecutive home defeats, losing 2-1 to Southampton Saints in the league followed by a 5-1 loss in the FA National Women’s League Cup to Leyton Orient.

“Last week (against Leyton Orient) was just one of those days in football where nothing goes right for you,” Jones reflected.

“I think the girls were more disappointed with their own performance than anything else, we were second best all over the pitch.

Abby Picton returned to action against Orient completing the full 90 minutes after recovering from a lengthy knee injury.

However, Alice Telling is still recovering from her long-term injury and will miss this weekend’s fixture.

“It’s clear we’ve not started as strongly as we’d have liked, we’re still missing a few players here and there,” Jones added.

“In the first game we were unfortunate not to get something from the game because I thought we played quite well.”

Jones took over as manager in the summer and although Town have suffered poor results so far, he believes the mood amongst the camp is very positive.

“You know what they say – new manager, new ideas – it will take time for us to improve and get to where we want to be.

“We all know we need to improve – the mood in the changing room is really good and we’re keeping things positive.

“It will take time – unfortunately in football you aren’t afforded much time since it’s a results business.”

“We’re going to attack the game and, as long as we focus on our own game, I’m confident we can get a good result.

Town face a difficult week ahead with three fixtures, including an away trip to league leaders Southampton, over the course of an eight-day period.

“It’s about managing the girls and their recovery time,” Jones said.

“We’ll be similar to a lot of other teams in the sense that we’ll train one full session, then have a recovery session after a mid-week game.

“It’ll be tough on the legs for sure, but we’ve got a big squad and so we’ll have to utilise all the players available to us.”
