AFTER a perfect pre-season programme, Swindon Wildcats’ player-coach Aaron Nell says his team are ready to meet the new season head on.

With four wins out of four ahead of the new season, Nell believes his Cats are in good shape ahead of the league campaign.

Their most recent win, a 6-1 victory away to Streatham on Sunday, was the most impressive to date, according to the player-coach.

“The results have gone our way but you can’t read too much into those,” he said.

“I’m happy. Obviously pre-season results aren’t the most important thing but you would rather win them than lose them.

“The game I was most happy with was on Sunday. The players were fantastic and we are just excited to get into the real hockey.

“Quite often, if you look back, you don’t normally win the last pre-season game because it is away from home, so for them to turn up like they did was fantastic, I am very proud of them.

“I’m 99 per cent sure this is the first time we have won all of our pre-season games.

“Last year, I think we lost three out of the four games we played. However, at the end of the season you won’t remember if you won or lost pre-season games.”

Nell says the summer recruits have settled in well with the remainder of the roster, the majority of whom were at the Link Centre during their cup winning season last term.

“The new guys have settled in really well,” he added.

“We are lucky that we were able to keep most of our team from last season and we know how we want to play.

“So to see the new guys settle in so well is great, they’ll be a big help for us this season.”
