TEENAGE netminder Tyler Perre says he is settling into life as a senior Wildcats player well after playing home and away against Sheffield Steeldogs last weekend.

Perre, who only celebrated his 18th birthday two months ago, was called upon both of the club’s Autumn Cup ties with Sheffield last week.

With first-choice netminder Renny Marr out with a suspension, player-coach Aaron Nell put his trust in the youngster and will do so again this weekend when the Cats battle it out with Telford Tigers.

After two superb outings for Swindon in their 4-3 and 4-2 victories, the youngster paid tribute to his teammates and says his confidence is sky high at the moment after revealing he was nervous ahead of last week’s debut.

“I’ve settled in great this year. I’ve grown up with the Swindon Wildcats, I’ve seen these guys play when I was younger so to be playing with them now has been great,” said Perre.

“I can’t really talk through some of the saves I made, but they helped the boys – they were the ones who really did it last weekend.

“They score the goals, I’m just there to stop them.

“Confidence is big. I am always nervous going into games, it’s new to me because I have straight out of the juniors into the seniors.

“It’s really different, there is a lot more speed, the shots are harder and the shots are more accurate, it’s crazy.

“I think I have adapted well to it and now I am playing for one of the greatest teams in the league, I’m really enjoying it.”

Reflecting on last weekend, Perre was delighted that Nell opted to ice him over Michael Crisp for the two contests.

“The weekend was great. The team played great and I have never seen so many blocked shots in my life,” he said.

“The team really did well for me and I am proud of them. Aaron spoke to me before last weekend, he spoke to me on the Thursday night.

“Obviously I knew before that Renny was going to be banned for last weekend, so I knew he was going to pick me or Michael Crisp and he picked me, so I am happy with that.”
