LAST weekend was great, not only because of the two wins over Sheffield Steeldogs, but also because of how well netminder Tyler Perre performed.

I’m not sure how he would have felt before the game but he made a big step up at the weekend because up until now, he has only ever played hockey with people who are his age.

The age gap is massive, especially when you compare him to some of the older guys on our team like Neil Liddiard and Jan Kostal.

Liddiard has been playing hockey since 1993 and Tyler celebrated his 18th birthday two months ago, to give you some sense of scale.

He was fantastic in goal, he was really mature and he helped us to get two really big wins.

After Renny Marr was suspended it might have been dropped on him a little bit, but I think sometimes that works in your favour.

It can be good and bad. He was thrown in at the deep end but he did do really well. He knows his role in the team.

Tyler knows he is back-up to Renny and he has really proven himself this week so we are looking forward to seeing him for the rest of the year.

We play Telford Tigers home and away this weekend and that will be another test for Tyler.

After getting two games under his belt last weekend he will be so much more confident compared to last weekend.

A goalie is such a massive part of a team and the boys were immaculate in front of him to give him as much protection as possible.

Everyone needs to chip in and if Tyler can pull off a few big saves like he did last weekend then we will be in a good spot.

Playing Telford is never easy and I am expecting a really different weekend.

I think it is always interesting when you play a team for the first time and we always have good, feisty battles with Telford.

Hopefully we can get another four points in the Autumn Cup.

There is a very fine line between being bullied on the ice and being overwhelmed.

You have to be very careful because penalties are a big thing now with new rules in the league with regards to bans.

Everyone has to be cautious because you can be given some very long suspensions.

It’s important we don’t get drawn into that because we have such a skilful side, so we won’t let them impact us.
