SWINDON Town manager Phil Brown has warned over complacency creeping in as his side look to follow up last weekend’s dominant win at Yeovil Town with another at home to Oldham Athletic on Saturday.

Town turned in their best performance of the season in ruthlessly sweeping aside the Glovers 3-0 last time out but have yet to claim back-to-back wins in League Two this season.

Another victory over Oldham this weekend would take Swindon’s points tally to 18 from their first 10 league games and keep them level with the last of the play-off positions at the very least.

Although delighted by the level of performance his side were able to reach at Yeovil, Brown says Town must approach tomorrow’s meeting with the Latics with the same intensity.

“The one thing we did do last Saturday was that we attacked as a team and we defended as a team,” said Brown.

“One to 11, we were successful on both sides of the coin – with and without the ball. That has to apply again on Saturday.

“Oldham are a different challenge completely to Yeovil. They have certainly got a similar system and a similar kind of frontline, meaning they have got stature up there and pace and mobility.

“But because we catered for that well against Yeovil, it doesn’t mean to say we can rest on our laurels and think we have cracked it – that’s the last thing I want the players to be thinking.

“I want the players to go out there on Saturday and make sure that we play well, that Oldham have a hard time, and that when the chances come along, we take them.”

Town have claimed four wins from their opening nine league fixtures and suffered just two defeats.

Adding another notch to the victory column against Oldham would represent a satisfying return from the opening section of the campaign for Brown.

“We have periodised the season and brought it down, and I am looking at batches of 10 games and then finishing with the final six. That will break down the season nicely for me,” said Brown.

“This is the first batch of 10 games and we are looking to finish it off on a high.

“Neil McDonald (assistant manager) told the press last week that he wanted back-to-back wins.

“He got his first one, which was a good win and a great performance at Yeovil, and hopefully we can compound that by coming back to the County Ground and making it a stronghold.”
