DEFENDER Sid Nelson says his sole focus remains on Swindon Town despite his long-term aspirations with Millwall as he prepares to host Oldham Athletic.

The 22-year-old arrived at the Energy Check County Ground in the summer, shortly after being handed a new contract by his parent club.

Nelson was captain of the London club’s youth team, and has previously expressed his desire to become a permanent fixture at The Den.

However, opportunities have been hard to come by in the capital, seeing Nelson head out on loan to Newport County, Chesterfield United and Yeovil Town in order to gain some experience.

“My long-term aim is to break into the first team at Millwall. I am still contracted there and there is obviously the bigger picture,” said Nelson, who added his team are well briefed on the Latics.

“But right now, my focus is on Swindon and nothing else. Thursday and Friday are the days where we sit down and talk about tactics and game plans.

“We go though what they are good at, what they are not good at and they will be doing the same about us.

“Training towards the end of the week is geared towards the weekend. Obviously that is different every week.

“We knew we are capable of doing what we did to Yeovil (last week) to any team. It has set a bar and a standard, so we don’t want to go too far away from that.”

With a potential return of Dion Conroy, manager Phil Brown could be left with a choice of four central defenders this weekend.

As Chris Robertson also slowly returns to full fitness, Nelson says he doesn’t mind who he plays alongside for Town.

“The boys here, especially the defenders because I do a lot more work with them, are all spot on, they’re great players,” he added.

“We have an understanding of it, we all know each other and we all know what we are all good at and we complement each other well now''
