PLAYER-COACH David Colclough says he believes his Swindon Shock players have the capabilities to exploit the weaknesses of Cardiff Met Archers this weekend.

The clash will be Shock’s first in the National League Division Three South and they go into it in good form after picking up victories in the National Shield and National Cup.

Point guard Antonio Wilburn committed his future to the club and Colclough thinks the American is a crucial cog in his team.

With back-to-back wins over the last few weeks, Colclough believes his side are in great shape ahead of the league curtain-raiser at New College Sports Hall (2pm).

“I think Antonio is one of the best point guards in the league, I haven’t seen anyone who is as good as him,” he said.

“We’ve not seen anyone really trouble him. There was one who was on the same level who played for Solent but in terms of managing the game, scoring and setting up other players he’s the best in the league.

“Those two cup games have meant its been ideal. We are still going to be without Lee Hobbis and Mantis Kmita but I think we will be okay,”

“We can work with the bench players. I like the depth that we have at the moment.”

After avoiding relegation by a point last year, Colclough will be looking for a fast start to their domestic campaign at New College this weekend.

Their opposition, Cardiff Archers, provide a familiar threat to Colclough who claims his side are able to nullify and threats and expose any weaknesses their counterparts possess.

“I’m confident I know who Cardiff have. Every year there are a few new players for them but they’re one of those steady teams.

“They’re well coach and well rounded. The nice thing is their point guard is getting a bit older, he runs everything.

“To have someone in the team who can nullify a threat is really nice and we have two or three of those this year which is really nice.

“They can stay on them and isolate them out of the game which is great, but the good thing is we can do the same thing in offence

“If we find they have a weak link we can go straight to that without being told.”
