FOLLOWING his return to action last Tuesday, Swindon Town striker Kaiyne Woolery reveals he still hasn’t fully tested himself.

The frontman required an operation after tearing his meniscus over the summer.

Now that he has returned, the striker reveals he has his own personal doubts over whether he still possesses his blistering speed.

“I still think I am fast. I haven’t really opened up 100 per cent so we will have to wait and see,” he said.

“During my first week in training I kept thinking about my knee, I still think about it now, but I went into a 50/50 with Ellis Iandolo and came out strong since then I’ve been trying to smash everyone in training.

“It’s more of a confidence thing, hopefully the more I train and the more I play the more confident I will get.

“I feel like I can hurt defenders in this league and most of them aren’t that mobile.”

Swindon travel to St James’ Park this afternoon where they will tackle in-form Exeter City.

Last year, managers David Flitcroft and Phil Brown could only take a point off of the Grecians, drawing 1-1 with them at the Energy Check County Ground, before losing the reverse fixture.

However, Woolery, who scored in both of those games, says he believes this year’s current crop of players are far superior than the group assembled by former boss Flitcroft.

Looking ahead to this season, Woolery is also hoping to see himself leading the club’s offensive line after admitting he felt ‘lost’ at times last season, when he was shipped out to play on the wing.

“I think you can see our squad is a lot stronger this year, we have more strength in depth and the numbers are better too,” added Woolery, who says he and the team are fully aware of what to expect from Exeter.

“I feel like our team spirit is better than last year. There are also certainly games at home that we would have thrown away last year like Macclesfield Town and Tranmere Rovers.

“Last year was very frustrating for me because I played upfront for a couple of games and then I was playing on the wing for the majority of it.

“I didn’t enjoy it out there, I felt a bit lost so hopefully I can play a few more games upfront this season.

“I think I was put out there because of my speed but also, we had some good strikers so I think I was an easy option to put out there.

“Last time we were there I remember we went 1-0 up and then ended up losing 3-1.

“You know what you are going to get with them. They kick it up to their striker Stockley and he is a big bully in the air. We need to stop him because he is their main threat.

“It’s not easy to defend against because if it was, we would have done that last year.”
