EDGARS Bebris' hat-trick helped Swindon Wildcats stretch their unbeaten home run to seven games tonight against London Raiders as the home side recorded a near faultless six-goal victory.

Max Birbraer, Edgar Bebris, Aaron Nell and Sam Jones all put markers past Raiders goalkeeper Michael Gray to maintain Wildcats’ impressive 100 per cent league record.

Fans weren’t just pleased with the result on ice, but also relieved the contest took place after the game was originally cast into doubt following concern regarding the condition of the ice surface.

A technical error meant the ice surface turned to water, however the problem was fixed shortly before 3pm – allowing the game to take place.

London were unfortunate not to take an early lead when Daniel Scott’s one-timer was saved by Wildcats netminder Renny Marr before play was frozen by the officials – despite Marr not being in control of the puck.

Swindon made the most of their early fortune as Max Birbraer emerged free with the puck in the offensive to comfortably put the home side ahead with six minutes played.

Two successful penalty kills for the Wildcats followed before Edgars Bebris doubled the home side’s lead shortly before the conclusion of the opening period.

Visiting netminder Gray kept Raiders in the contest with two key saves at the start of the second period – firstly when Adam Harding’s one-on-one effort was guided wide before Bebris’ one-timer at the back post was blocked with a reaction save.

Player-coach Aaron Nell deservedly struck Wildcats’ third goal six minutes into the second period though when his accurate effort took Gray’s water bottle and stretched the home side’s lead to three.

That lead soon became four when Sam Jones’ back post tap-in from Johnson’s accurate cross-ice pass killed any hopes Raiders had of taking points from Wiltshire.

The third period followed a similar trend to the previous two, with London ultimately unable to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them.

A five-on-three powerplay for more than a minute was successfully killed by Wildcats – Jan Kostal proved a leading figure for the hosts when blocking a series of goal bound shots.

Edgars Bebris ensured Wildcats scored in all periods when poking the puck into Gray’s net from close range after Sam Jones’ initial shot was parried.

Bebris then secured his hat-trick with a goal in the concluding minute, ending a successful night for the home side.

The win stands Wildcats in good stead ahead of tomorrow’s crunch clash against Berkshire outfit Bracknell Bees, who currently top the league standings.
