On Sunday 21st October 2018, Swindon youngster Mitchell McCarthy won the England Darts Organisation Youth Grand Prix Final that was held in Cambridge.

13 year old Mitchell from Stratton qualified for the finals by collecting enough points over the 6 Grand Prix events that were held across the country in 2018.

The finals were contested by the top 16 players from the Grand Prix events and Mitchell's qualification position saw him seeded as Number 3 for the Finals having been runner up in the Grand Prix events in both London and Tyne & Wear.

The event finals started with a Round Robin and Mitchell started the day with a hard fought 3-2 win over Tavis Dudeney from Sussex.

This was followed by a 3-0 win over Kieran Lown from Cleveland and a 3-1 win over Drew Mole from Newcastle saw Mitchell win the group and move safely into the quarter finals.

In the quarter final Mitchell came from 1-0 down to defeat 17yr old Tyler Radlett from Surrey by 4-1.

In the semi final he again came from 1-0 down to defeat the number 1 seed 16yr old Connor Arberry from Cambridgeshire by 4-2 to qualify for the Grand Final.

In the Final Mitchell's opponent was 17yr old Jack Male from Tyne & Wear and the best of 9 legs match went down to a last leg decider.

Mitchell held his nerve to win the last leg to give him a 5-4 victory to pick up the fantastic trophy, £300 prize money and the title of England Youth Grand Prix Champion.
