SWINDON Ladies failed to build on their positive Premier Division 2A record at the weekend when slipping to a 2-1 defeat against Bristol outfit Firebrands 2.
The hosts first struck just after the half hour mark when a penalty corner was successfully converted after an accurate strike from the top of the D took a wicked deflection to loop over Alexis Hogarth’s reach – gifting Firebrands a freak opening goal.
Firebrands doubled their lead moments into the second half when another accurate strike from a penalty corner was this time saved by Hogarth, but that did little to stop the home side from pouncing on the rebound – leaving Swindon trailing by two.
The visitors’ spirits weren’t dampened as Swindon pressed for a goal to edge back into the contest.
A deserved goal came on 56 minutes when Angela Cooke’s pin-point pass found Vic Stokes, who used her skills to half Swindon’s deficit and make for an exciting finish.
Despite applying further pressure, Firebrands held on for a 2-1 win – a result which leaves Swindon eighth in the division with two wins from eight.
There was no luck for Swindon Men’s either as they slipped to a 2-3 defeat at home against Robinsons A.
Despite taking the lead twice, crashed to a third loss of the season, leaving them sixth in the Championship – 17 points short of leaders Cardiff.
