REIGNING champions Kintbury Rangers made the most of what was largely a wet weekend in the Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division to strengthen their grip on the top of the table.

Rangers were involved in just one of three fixtures to take place on Saturday and capitalised on title rivals Wroughton’s absence from action with a thumping 5-0 win at home to Pewsey Vale Development to move three points clear at the summit.

Shaun Thorp led the way for Rangers with a hat-trick, while Harry Way and Jamie Gannon also got themselves on the scoresheet in a one-side encounter.

Shrewton United trimmed the gap to second-placed Wroughton to two points after a hard-fought 3-2 win at home to Melksham Town Reserves.

Ben Jenks put Shrewton ahead early on, but the home side found themselves in arrears at half-time as goals from Jack Baker and Shaun Bennison turned the game around for Melksham.

Shrewton rallied in the second half, though, and drew level through Charlie Utterson’s strike before Dan Burton netted a late winner for United.

Corsham Town Reserves were the solitary away winners on the day, doing so in convincing fashion with a 6-2 success away at Football ID.

Daniel Lardner was in inspired form in front of goal for Corsham, leading the charge with a four-timer, while Emilio Mudrak and Ben Selman also hit the back of the net.

Wiltshire League side Cricklade Town missed out on a place in the semi-finals of the Wiltshire Senior Cup as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Wessex League side Laverstock & Ford in the last eight of the competition.
