NATIONWIDE A’s bid to step into the Swindon District Netball League Division One’s top two was boosted at the weekend after they made light work of Lawn A.

A standout performance from Jess Hemborough helped Nationwide A secure a timely 20-39 victory in their final fixture of 2018.

Lawn did show signs of promise, but the visitors ultimately failed to surrender their early lead.

Raycham A remain top of Division One.

Meanwhile in Division Two, Nationwide B remain top after they defeated Burmah B 62-31 at home.

Last weekend provided Nationwide B with a return to form as a strong start saw them lead by 11 goals by half time.

They continued to dictate the game, as Burmah’s attacking players struggled to break through the hosts’ resilient defensive line – led by goalkeeper Alli Mckie and Player of the Match Tiffany Wigmore.

Nationwide’s attacking play went up a gear in the second half as Sian Corbyn and Georgie Brain stood out in front of goal – the hosts eventually outscoring their opponents two to one.

Elsewhere in Division Two, Lawn B put Raychem C to the sword – securing a comfortable 67-31 win as goal attack Hannah Simpson starred.

Lawn took the lead from the start and failed to look back as a combination of excellent defending and mid-court play helped feed the attacking third, who showed little signs of hesitation in front of goal.

Fairford A were also on form as they defeated winless Purton A 44-35 at home.

The visitors can perhaps count themselves unlucky to be without a win this season, particularly after being edged out in their most recent contest.

Strong shooting at both ends of the court saw Fairford establish a slim first half lead.

Despite showing character, Purton crashed to an 11th loss this season – keeping them bottom of the table – while Fairford marched on with their eighth win of the season.

Meanwhile in Division Three, Lawn C suffered a heavy home loss after being beaten by Royal Wootton Bassett A.
