SWINDON’S Abby Miles has been selected to represent England Netball Nets U21 at the Indoor Netball World Cup in South Africa later this year.

The 20-year-old made the preliminary squad for the England Netball Nets, along with 22 other girls, back in February 2018 and has now made the final squad of 12 for August’s tournament.

The West-Swindon resident was also recently selected to represent the England Netball Nets U21 squad in November when she played in the RedBull Switch Up tournament which took place at the Copperbox Arena in London.

Nets is a variation of netball that is played within an enclosed high-tension cage, or ‘net’, and as such is very fast and without a break between periods.

As well as international recognition, Abby has been given a chance in domestic netball as she recently received an invite to train with London Pulse ahead of their debut season in the Women’s Super League.

Abby, who is a P.E teacher at Perry Court E-ACT Academy in Bristol, said representing her country was a dream and has targeted a leadership role alongside bringing home glory for England.

She said: “I am really excited about my selection to represent my country in the sport I love.

“I’m looking forward to training with the squad leading up to the Indoor Netball World Cup and hopefully achieving a gold medal for England. I’m going to work hard and try and get a role of a captain/vice-captain.

“I’d like to thank my current sponsors Nterga, Smarter-Media Digital-Agency, SocMedSup.com, GLL Sport Foundation, Goatx.co and Doing it for Dan, who have all helped me financially on the road to going to the World Cup.”

Unfortunately for Abby, the tour is self-funded, so she will require a significant level of sponsorship and donations to help fund her place on the trip.

While she has already gained help from several local businesses, she is a fair way short of her £3500 target and is asking for anyone who may want to help her achieve her place to get in touch.

Abby said: “It’s obviously a dream to represent my country at such a big event. In the future, I want to progress into the senior team where the standard includes Women’s Super League players.”

“Many local businesses from Swindon have all kindly helped me already but I’m still some way off my target of between £3,500 and £4000.”
