SAM Ockwell's first-half strike extended Shrivenham's winning run to an eighth game following a narrow 1-0 success away at Virginia Water in Hellenic League Premier Division.

Ockwell's long-range effort just after the quarter-of-an-hour mark was enough to seal the points for Gareth Davies' side.

That made it a perfect 21 points in a row for the Barrington Park outfit, who also earned progress in the Supplementary Cup during this run after a home walkover against Woodstock Town.

Although there was little to choose between the teams on the day, Shrivvy boss Davies felt his troops deserved to edge proceedings.

"That is a really good three points for us," said Davies.

"With the way Virginia Water set up, they are very hard to break down.

"We tried to play in the right areas and the goal that won it, Sam hit one from 25 yards that arrowed straight into the net, so I think that deserved to win any game.

"It was a difficult day and very windy so conditions played a part, but overall after the 90 minutes, I thought we were the better side."

Malmesbury Victoria were the only other local side in action and they earned progress in the Supplementary Cup with a 4-0 win at home to Holyport.

Jamie Packer struck twice, with Sam Parker and Josh Hughes also netting.
