WESTLECOT combinations will represent the club in three men’s events in Nottingham at the national championships age group competitions this weekend.

The club also have an interest in the Family Pairs competition, featuring Lucy and Neil Smith, that rounds off the Nottingham championships on April 15.

Mel Biggs competes in all three of the men’s age group competitions and opened up yesterday evening with an inter-area O60s fours final against York & District, led by Phillip Parsons.

If the Westlecot foursome of Dave Snell, Terry Walton, Barry Sictorness and skip Biggs are successful, they will face Gateshead in the last 16 this morning.

York are the opponents again in the inter-area final of the O50s triples against Biggs, Ian Jefferies and Neil Smith today.

Should Westlecot be successful, they will advance to the last 16 on Monday to face County Arts (Norwich).

Finally, the third Westlecot combination of Snell and Biggs have to play an inter-area final in the O60s pairs against York on April 9.

If successful, the duo would face Stamford (Lincs) the following day in the last 16.

Katy and Neil Smith round-off Westlecot’s bid in the national indoor finals for this season on April 13 when they play Mark Dawes and partner (Blackpool Newton Hall) in the inter-area final of the family pairs.

These age group events in Nottingham virtually wrap up the 2018/19 indoor season, which has seen Westlecot bag a national title courtesy of Smith sisters, Lucy and Katy, in the ladies’ national pairs championship.

That was only the fourth ever success at national level for the Old Town indoor club since the indoor facility opened in 1983.
