Swindon Advertiser:

ONE TO WATCH: PADRAIG AMOND

NEWPORT’S top scorer thought his season was over three weeks ago after fracturing his elbow in a freak training ground incident.

But the Irishman appeared from the bench in County’s 0-0 draw against Tranmere at the weekend, and could make his first start since March15 against Richie Wellens’ side at Rodney Parade tonight.

Six goals in five games over the festive period speaks for itself - Amond is one of the division’s bigger threats in front of goal.

Prior to his move to south Wales in the summer of 2017, he was free-scoring at Hartlepool, Grimsby and Morecambe.

How Town’s young defence deal with him remains to be seen.

KEY BATTLE: CANICE CARROLL VS JOSH SHEEHAN

CANICE Carroll’s performance against Yeovil Town at the weekend was hit and miss.

The Brentford loan signing made a series of key interceptions, but at the same time gifted possession away cheaply.

He has become a regular in Richie Wellens’ matchday squad, and Newport midfielder Josh Sheehan has a physical task ahead of him if he is to experience any success on home turf.

With 36 appearances to his name this season, Sheehan - 24 - certainly has experience on his side.

But facing Carroll is no easy task - as you can be sure he will find out.
