Swindon Town manager Richie Wellens yesterday revealed the club have amped up its search for a new striker by tabling a bid for an unnamed goal getter.

Speaking at The Croft Primary School as Town launched their new season ticket initiative for primary school children, Wellens announced he has his eyes set on a handful of strikers, including one at Premier League level.

While not willing to part with the name of his target, the 39-year-old suggested he would chase two or three more strikers following failed bids to lure Nicky Maynard and Danny Mayor to the County Ground.

Wellens said: "We’re going to put an offer in today (Thursday) for one, so we’ll see what comes back from that.

"As far as strikers go, there are a couple, but we have to be patient because one is at a Premier League club and one is at a championship club and they want to look at them before they let them out."

Meanwhile, Town continue their pre-season schedule away at Swindon Supermarine tonight (kick-off 7:30) before heading off for a warm weather training camp in La Manga, Spain on Monday.
