MARK Neilson believes his Fight Town 3 show in the town later this month will be the best his promotion group has staged yet.

This week, Swindon welterweight Ryan Martin was confirmed in a mouth-watering bout at the November 30 event as he faces South African Mziwoxolo Ndwayana in an eliminator for the Commonwealth title.

Another Commonwealth title eliminator is also on the card at the Oasis Leisure Centre as Bec Connolly – Martin’s stable-mate from Paddy Fitzpatrick’s Ferndale Road Gym in the town – faces Rachel Ball in a super-featherweight showdown.

Meanwhile, Sam Smith takes on Germaine Brown for the Southern Area super-middleweight title, and Swindon’s former Commonwealth cruiserweight champion Luke Watkins will also feature.

Promoters Neilson Boxing and trainer Fitzpatrick will officially launch the show at a press conference at the Oasis today, starting at 1pm, and it is set to be the most hotly-anticipated event the partnership has produced.

Neilson said: “We keep putting on really good shows.

“It is difficult to keep topping the last one but they are getting bigger and better. We are getting really established now and are starting to make an awful lot of contacts.

“Working with Paddy is going really well as he has got this production line of quality local boxers coming through.

“It has turned into a cracking card. This is going to be the best yet.

“A lot of shows around the country have local boxers in fights that are foregone conclusions – the blue corner is always going to beat the red corner.

“When you have eliminators on the bill, the card gets full of proper 50-50 fights. That’s what fans want to see.”

With so many quality fights on the card, Neilson admits he is in a dilemma over who to make the main event.

However, cruiserweight Watkins is in line to get the nod as he makes just a second outing in his home town in two-and-a-half years.

“Everyone is vying for the main event at the moment because we keep adding big fights,” said Neilson.

“Luke Watkins is top-10 ranked and he will be on the bill, Bec Connolly has got an eliminator, Ryan Martin is in an eliminator, Sam Smith is fighting for the Southern Area title. Who do you put as the main event?

“We are still weighing up the order and who will be the main event. I would imagine it would be Luke as he has been there and done it and is the big name, if you like.

“Luke is the biggest name and has the highest profile but we keep getting big fights for the support card. It gives us a bit of a dilemma.”
