SWINDON Town eased into the semi-finals of the Wiltshire Premier Shield on Tuesday night with a dominant win away at non-league side Westbury United.

Town assistant manager Noel Hunt oversaw proceedings against opponents from Level Nine of the football pyramid as the club returned to county competition for the first time in several seasons.

Adam May struck twice in the first half at Meadow Lane, while Diallang Jaiyesimi and Scott Twine were also on target as the visitors took a four-goal lead into the interval.

Ralph Graham came off the bench at the break to continue the one-way traffic in the second half before Twine made it a brace of goals of his own and Harry Parsons wrapped up the magnificent seven.

As expected, Town dictated play from the off and had already tested home keeper Ed Baldy twice before they broke the deadlock after 13 minutes.

Ellis Iandolo was the first to threaten five minutes in but his powerful effort was well saved by the Westbury stopper, who then pulled off another good stop to thwart Parsons after good work from Twine.

The hosts’ class was evident and Jaiyesimi opened the scoring after breaking through the centre before unleashing an unstoppable drive into the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the box.

May then tried his luck from similar range but sent his effort straight at Baldy – although the lead was 2-0 after 25 minutes.

Again, space opened up for Jaiyesimi to drive up the pitch, and this time he laid off to Twine, who lashed home low and hard.

Jaiyesimi was involved again as Town got their third goal on the half-hour mark. His cross from the right was cushioned down by Parsons for May to send a sweet first-time strike beyond the reach of Baldy.

Although the Westbury keeper could do nothing about the first three goals, he will be disappointed about the manner of Swindon’s fourth as May’s effort from distance somehow squeezed through Baldy legs and into the net to leave the visitors in total control at half-time.

May almost completed his hat-trick just four minutes into the second period as Baldy pushed his low strike onto the post.

Town did have their fifth goal just two minutes later, though, when half-time substitute Graham pounced to tuck home Twine’s low cross from the left.

After a brief lull in proceedings, Swindon found their shooting boots again on 70 minutes as Twine bagged his second with a strike from the edge of the box.

Twine went close to a hat-trick in the closing stages but Baldy made a good save from his cushioned finish before Parsons had the final word on the night, heading home a bobbling ball to complete his side’s magnificent seven and seal their place in the semi-finals.
