SWINDON Ladies triumphed 4-3 against Chippenham last Saturday in the West Clubs Womens Hockey League.

After a delayed start due to frosty conditions, the game eventually got underway and goalkeeper Alexis Hogarth was brought into the match early, being forced to make a few good diving saves to prevent the away team from taking the lead.

Swindon remained off the pace in first 15 minutes though and Chippenham capitalised.

It did not take long for the opening goal to spark Swindon into life however, and smart play from Victoria Stokes and Rachel King allowed Gemma Scrase to fire the hosts level before grabbing her second of the game moments later.

In the second half, Chloe Lewis put Swindon further in front before Rebecca Lightbody added a fourth.

Chippenham then piled on the pressure and brought the score close, but they were unable to find an equaliser and Swindon survived to take the points.

Elsewhere, Swindon Ladies 2s battled to a 1-1 draw at home to Devizes 2s.

In their first game back after the Christmas break, Swindon started the game with only 11 players but showed excellent work rate to push Devizes all the way.

The hosts took the lead prior to the break after Becky Davies’ short-corner shot was tidied up by Chloe Silvester.

Swindon started the second half in bright fashion, but Devizes scored a well-worked goal to share the points.

Swindon Men joined their female counterparts in picking up a win as they claimed a 4-2 success away at University of Exeter C.

Swindon absorbed all the early pressure from their hosts before striker Thomas Wickins put the visitors in front.

A second quickly followed with Dave Miles hammering home a low hit from a short corner, however, Exeter halved the deficit moments later.

Swindon were quick to respond to this threat, scoring after a ball was fired in towards the Exeter goalie who gifted Thomas Sewell an easy finish.

The second half remained goalless for some time before Miles struck again from a tidy short-corner routine to wrap up victory.
