A NEW side to Swindon Speedway heroes Jason Doyle and Troy Batchelor was revealed at the Southbrook Inn on Thursday night as the club put on a sell-out talk show, hosted by television commentator Nigel Pearson.

With only weeks remaining until the start of Robins’ SGB Premiership title defence, both Doyle and Batchelor made the long trip from their Norfolk homes to meet and greet club supporters and open up about a range of topics both on and off track.

The laugh-a-minute show, which sold out just hours after tickets first went on sale, was attended by hundreds of fans who were quick to snap up 2017 world champion Jason Doyle’s latest range of merchandise before the evening started.

When the talking did start, a range of topics including Nicki Pedersen’s return to British speedway, Batchelor’s recent fallout with King’s Lynn and the sport’s direction forward were covered.

Much of the hilarious conversation will forever remain between the Southbrook’s four walls, though, as supporters afterwards voiced their delight regarding the off-season entertainment provided by the club.

One member of the audience said: “That was such a fun, interesting, insight into speedway life with both riders in form.

“Team spirit must be high with them two (Doyle & Batchelor) leading our team and lovely to see how much they enjoy being in the team together.”

Another Robins fan said: “Nigel (Pearson) was excellent. No script and kept it flowing and fun. A great evening.”

And: “It was a brilliant night, and very funny – I had a great time. Well done for keeping the funny stories coming.”

Both Doyle and Batchelor will be out of their casual wear and back into kevlars on Thursday, March 26, when King’s Lynn Stars visit in the Supporters’ Cup.

The club’s SGB Premiership title defence meanwhile starts a little later than usual a visit to Belle Vue on Monday, April 20, starting the club’s top-flight campaign.
