RICHIE Wellens has tipped loan star Diallang Jaiyesimi to feature in the Premier League in the not too distant future.

Wellens’ comments were voiced after Town defeated promotion rivals Exeter City 2-1 at the Energy Check County Ground on Saturday in a top of the table clash witnessed by more than 13,000 fans.

Jaiyesimi was unplayable at times, and perhaps deserved more than the one assist he registered as a number of devastating through balls and forward runs regularly split Grecians’ usually sound defence in half.

High winds no doubt hampered the game’s quality, but the Norwich star dealt with his marker Nigel Atangana well as Town extended their lead at the top of the League Two table to five points.

Wellens said: “I think he can play in the Premier League, 100 per cent.

“He’s young, had a couple of loans and doesn’t want to sit in Norwich’s U23s. He wants to get out, work, graft, improve and play under pressure – they are all big things.”

Jaiyesimi was dealt a huge blow at the start of the season when he twisted his ankle in training and consequently didn’t play until mid-October.

Only in the last month has the 21-year-old established a regular spot in Wellens’ starting XI, and the Town boss is starting to notice his rapid improvement.

He added: “His last four games have been excellent, in spells he has been unplayable – it’s outstanding.

“If you find yourself in a one against one with him, Diallang (Jaiyesimi) is your worst nightmare because he can go either way and he is strong.

“If you try and get too close to him and fight him, he has a big backside and strong thighs and he’ll just roll you.

“He’s a super talented player and is improving too. Look at Nigel (Atangana) - he never picked up second balls, because DJ was in a good position defensively.

“It was tough when he first came in, but he is over that now and is flying.”
