SWINDON boss Alun Rossiter is predicting the perfect Abbey track surface for the 2021 season.

Rossiter, who inspired the club to the league and cup double last year, says some work at the stadium before winter will allow the track to settle down.

He was pleased with the newly laid circuit last season and riders gave it the thumbs up.

But there were teething issues which were to be expected after a late rush to get the job completed in time for their opening meeting.

“What the guys achieved in reshaping the track in such a short period of time was amazing,” he said.

“But as with everything like this there were a couple of issues which needed addressing and the work this year will enhance what we already had.

“I believe the plan is to leave the track alone during the winter and I think the riders next year will have the perfect surface – or as close to perfect as we can get it.”

Rossiter insists the cancelled season has left him frustrated but it has also made him realise how much people love the sport.

“You only have to look at the meetings at Scunthorpe and King’s Lynn at grassroots standard and people want to get out and see some speedway,” he said.

“I’m told Scunthorpe got close to their full allocation of spectators for both their meetings and it just makes you realise how much you love the sport when you haven’t got it.

“It’s so good to have the Grand Prix up and running now and that gives us all something to look forward to and I quite like the back-to-back Friday / Saturday rounds.

“Our own Jason Doyle struggled for speed but he’s a fabulous rider and he has to keep the faith, which I’m sure he will.”

Swindon’s Great Britain international Adam Ellis is in the early stages of his recovery from a back injury sustained in the GP Challenge last month.

He is expected to be ready to train again by December and will be fully fit for next season and the return of British racing.
