SWINDON Town comfortably saw off Burton to make it two home league wins out of two.

New boys Jordan Stevens and Brett Pitman put the hosts in the driving seat before Mathieu Baudry's header made it 3-0 inside 35 minutes. Strikes from Burton's Stephen Quinn and Lucas Akins sandwiched a Jonny Smith effort on the hour as Town claimed the three points.

After a 2-0 defeat at Blackpool the previous weekend Town were looking to make a return to winning ways and dominated most of the game.

A quiet opening saw a couple of harmless free-kicks and corners dealt with by both defences.

But the deadlock was broken in the seventh minute by Stevens – making his debut after joining on loan from Leeds United.

The young winger won the ball off Burton striker Akins, who was lying deep in the centre circle.

He fed Jack Payne and advanced forward, taking the return pass and slotting a finish low to keeper Ben Garratt's right.

Soon afterwards the goalscorer found Pitman with a chipped cross.
The veteran striker brought the ball down and turned but sent his effort wide of the target.

Town kept the pressure up, with Stevens winning the ball off right-back Colin Daniel in his own box.

His pass found Matt Smith, whose shot took a deflection and fell nicely for keeper Garrett.

Akins had the chance to equalise for Burton after running through on goal but passed up his opportunity.

Town’s attackers continued to press and the second goal of the game came on 31 minutes through Pitman's first for the club.

Payne claimed his second assist of the game after Matt Smith released him on the right. He cut inside the penalty box and squared to Pittman, whose first-time effort found the corner of the net.

Town were dominating the game at this point and quickly took advantage again.
Five minutes later an inswinging corner from Paul Caddis found the head of centre-back and captain Baudry, who powered past Garratt from close range to notch his first goal for the club.

But anyone who thought Burton were about to turn over and Town would rack up a cricket score was mistaken.

The visitors pulled a goal back when a  corner from Joe Powell was floated into the Town box and was poorly cleared. It reached the edge of the box and fell kindly for Quinn, who volleyed sweetly past Matej Kovar.

The 25-yard strike was the last goal of the first period but Zeki Fryers picked up a yellow card after handling inside the Town half.

The second half was a stop-start affair littered with free-kicks and throw-ins.

The first scare of the half for Town came when on-loan Manchester United keeper Kovar was almost caught with the ball at his feet.

Trying to get away from the Burton forwards, he hesitated on the ball and was almost dispossessed, but steadied himself and managed to clear for a throw.

Boss Richie Wellens was not pleased and some choice words could clearly be heard aimed directly at Kovar in the empty stadium.

It took Town 15 minutes to find the back of the net again to make it 4-1.

Matt Smith, who had just been booked for his challenge on Quinn, won the ball off Burton and drove Town forward. He slipped the ball into Jonny Smith, who coolly slotted past Garratt.

But Burton weren’t going down without a fight.

Town's legs were starting to go and there was an obvious lack of press high up the pitch.

This allowed Burton to pass the ball at the back and find some openings.
With 13 minutes to go Burton they cut the deficit after some poor defending from Town.

Daniel lifted the ball into the Town box from the left and found the head of Akins, who was unmarked and in plenty of space at the back post.

Both the defence and keeper should have done more and Burton could have made it 4-3 as Akins missed the target with a free header from a free-kick.

Burton didn’t register another shot on the Town goal and the hosts saw out the win.
