SWINDON Town owner Lee Power admits he does not know how much longer he can keep the football club going for and says the business is “living month by month.”

Speaking to BBC Radio Wiltshire, Power stated that Town’s finances are “terrible” and the point in which Swindon’s also-chairman runs out of money to fund the club may have already past.

Power praised the English Football League for their help and contribution in helping to stave off any serious financial issues, but said a bailout for all clubs in the professional pyramid is needed as soon as possible.

Explaining Town’s current financial situation, Power said: “The finances are terrible.

“The compensation we received for Richie (Wellens) doesn’t even touch the sides for one month.

“It’s been a tough struggle – I haven’t sold an airline, I haven’t married into money. I’m just doing my best, like I have always done, to keep the club’s finances in check and to try and keep it going.

“How long we can do that for, I don’t know. We’re living month-by-month at the moment and hoping for some help, but at the moment, it isn’t coming.

“I think that point (where I don’t have any more money to put in) came not long ago.

“The EFL have stepped in and tried to help, they’re trying as hard as they can to rectify the situation, but they need help from the Premier League and the government.”

Power’s cause in funding Swindon Town has not been helped by his ongoing legal battles over the ownership of the club.

The 48-year-old insisted he is fighting the cases on his own while also battling to keep his football club alive since the Coronavirus pandemic first hit at the start of this year.

He said: “All I’ve done over the last year, or at least five or six months, is fight tooth and nail just to keep the football club going and keep it alive – I don’t think there’s any secret about that.

“Obviously, I’ve been trying to sell the football club for a year, and on top of that now we have this issue.

“I’m sitting here fighting these battles on my own, so I’ll make that clear.

“All of the finances, touching £2 million, that have gone into the club over the course of last season and this, is all from me – contrary to what people say, that’s a fact.”
