SWINDON Town assistant manager Noel Hunt has left the club by mutual consent.

The 37-year-old joined former Town boss Richie Wellens as his assistant in November 2018 as the club recovered from a poor start to finish 13th in League Two.

Hunt was then a part of the backroom staff that went on to help the Robins lift the League Two title in his first full season as Wellens' number two.

In a tumultuous period for Town during the end of October and beginning of November, Hunt took charge of first-team matters for four games.

The former Reading player oversaw Swindon's 2-1 win against Hull City before watching on as Town lost 4-2 away at Plymouth Argyle the following Tuesday – a night in which Wellens watched his new team Salford City before being announced as the club's new manager the following morning.

Hunt began a nine-day period as interim coach by guiding the team to an embarrassing 2-1 defeat to National League North side, Darlington in the first round of the FA Cup.

Town recovered by beating Forest Green Rovers 1-0 in the EFL Trophy a few days later.

The Irishman briefly took up the role of John Sheridan's assistant manager upon the 56-year-old's appointment before departing Swindon the day after a 4-2 defeat to Crewe Alexandra.

In a brief club statement, Swindon Town said: "The Club would like to thank Noel for all his efforts during his time at the County Ground, especially during our 2019/20 League Two championship-winning campaign.

"We would also like to wish Noel the very best of luck in his future endeavours."
