SCOTT Twine will have his loan at Newport County cut short and is set to return to Swindon Town next week, confirmed manager John Sheridan.

The young forward, who has scored seven goals and assisted five in 23 appearances for County, was initially sent to South Wales on a season-long deal in order to gain valuable experience of professional football.

However, with Town now struggling at the wrong end of League One, boss John Sheridan revealed Twine will be returning to the club before next Saturday's trip to Ipswich Town in a bid to add some much-needed firepower to the side.

Asked about the future of Scott Twine and fellow loanee, Matt Palmer, Sheridan said: "We will be recalling those two.

"Matty will be coming back anyway because his loan ends next week, and he can't play tomorrow.

"But we will be recalling them both while they're both doing OK. It's numbers and bodies for us, and we need strength in depth and players competing with each other to help make us stronger as an outfit."

Sheridan confirmed Twine will not be able to play against Wigan Athletic on Saturday before going on to explain why the decision was made to bring him back to the County Ground.

Sheridan said: "He's done well, and he's scored one or two goals. He's a bit different to what we've got, and he's another body.

"He went to Newport on loan, and full credit to them and (manager) Mike Flynn, they got something out of him, and he's playing on a regular basis.

"He's going to come back here now and compete for a place in the side. I wouldn't bring him back for him to think he's going straight back in the side.

"He's Swindon's player, but he's coming back to compete and fight for a place in the side."
