ADVER Sport reporter Jonny Leighfield has his say on all the latest at Swindon Town.

After a week’s break due to the sheer volume of stories out of the County Ground, I have been able to find the time once again to write my usual column thanks to a far quieter stretch for the club.

Those of you who follow me on Twitter will have seen I suggested last weekend’s memorable 3-2 win away at Ipswich was probably Swindon’s best performance of the season. After some consideration, I would like to take the word ‘probably’ out of that sentence.

The defensive solidity the team showed was underlined by the fact new goalkeeper, Mark Travers was only forced to make one proper save. And what a save it was.

Up the other end, Town created good chances with regularity and arguably could have scored a couple more than the three they managed.

But of course, despite the deserved nature of the win, it wouldn’t be Swindon if the club didn’t make it a little interesting late on.

Scott Twine’s strike was up there alongside Rory Fallon’s overhead kick against Bristol City as one of the best goals I’ve ever seen from a Swindon player.

As I replayed that goal over in my head on the way home, I couldn’t help but wonder what the reaction of everyone in the ground might have been had there been a full crowd in.

My reaction was akin to a small child receiving his or her dream gift on Christmas Day. The poor Ipswich reporters probably thought there had been a murder somewhere close by.

Moving swiftly on, Swindon’s next game is at home to Doncaster Rovers. In the reverse fixture a month ago, Town showed glimpses of the side I know they can be, but the finishing touch was just missing.

With fresh blood in Town’s team, and the substantial figure of Ben Whiteman now missing from Doncaster after his move to Preston, I remain hopeful that Swindon can chain consecutive wins together for the first time this season.

It will be quite a challenge, admittedly, as Rovers have plenty of quality throughout their side, and Darren Moore is a coach I have a lot of respect for.

However, with Scott Twine around, there is always a chance.
