SWINDON Town defender Paul Caddis says a couple of new signings could be exactly what the club needs to ignite a consistent run of positive results.

After Mark Travers and Dom Thompson were signed in the first week of January, Swindon went on to beat Ipswich Town away from home.

However, John Sheridan’s men were unable to follow that result up against Doncaster Rovers – going down 2-1 despite a decent performance.

With two new strikers hopefully joining Town before Saturday’s trip to Charlton Athletic, Caddis said that could be exactly what the club needs to kick on and drag out some positive results.

He said: I know the manager has said he wants to bring more in, but we’ve got quite a big squad as it is, so we’ll just have to see what happens this week.

“Hopefully, that is what it takes – getting a new player – and that can be the spark that you need to get things going.

“You saw the effect that Dom Thompson had on his debut with three assists, and Mark Travers did well too in both his first games.”

Many Town fans were frustrated at beating one promotion-chasing side with aplomb prior to losing to another straight after.

Asked how the result against Doncaster could follow such a big win against Ipswich, Caddis was perplexed for an answer.

He said: “The difference is the result because we still conceded two sloppy goals at Ipswich. It’s frustrating for us, as much as it is for the fans, and I know that it’s us who have got to put it right.

“I honestly don’t know how to answer that. We’ve just got to go back to training every day, working hard and hopefully things will turn.”
