ADVER Sport reporter Jonny Leighfield discusses the latest talking points to come out of Swindon Town.

In a pretty quiet week for the club in terms of signings, the acquisition of Queens Park Rangers defender Conor Masterson provided with John Sheridan with his fourth defensive reinforcement of the window.

Bringing goalkeeper Mark Travers was certainly the most important signing so far, but bringing in cover at full-back was just a notch below, in my opinion.

Both Dominic Thompson and Kieron Freeman appear to be quality pieces of business by the Town hierarchy.

As you may recall, when Sheridan was unveiled, he vowed to improve the defensive stability of the club and aimed to prevent his team from conceding the ‘poor, poor goals’ (TM) initially observed.

In the weeks that followed, however, those ‘poor, poor goals’ have continued to find their way past whoever was in between the sticks for Swindon.

But now, with an almost completely different back line in operation, Sheridan’s initial aim will really be tested.

The Town boss said as much in his pre-match press conference when asked if he felt under any pressure.

Though his initial response was “no”, Sheridan went on to say he believes the pressure may begin to grow now that he has his own players in the squad.

The only hole in Swindon’s January business comes in the form of the pair of strikers the Town boss has been after for some time.

A target man is a must, but said striker must be able to score the goals to keep the club up as well. Otherwise, Tom Broadbent might as well be sent back alongside Brett Pitman or Tyler Smith a little more often upon his return from injury.

The business completed by Town has been excellent so far, but if the club is to survive in League One this season, it is vital that the final two or three signings must be of the same standard.
