SWINDON Town manager John Sheridan admitted he was angry after watching his side draw 2-2 away at Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

Having taken a two-goal lead into the break, courtesy of Hallam Hope and Matt Palmer, Swindon then lost the second half 2-0 as substitute Andrew Shinnie poked home a 90th minute leveller following Chuks Aneke’s earlier header.

Charlton also hit the frame of the goal three times in total, while Diallang Jaiyesimi shot against the post for Town as well late on.

In a thrilling game between a pair of teams that had already drawn 2-2 this season, both managers were left frustrated that their respective team did not take all three points.

Reacting to a point that did not move Town out of 23rd place in League One, Sheridan said: “I’m angry we’ve ended up drawing the game, very disappointed we’ve ended up drawing the game.

“I thought it was a very good team performance. In the first half, I thought we were excellent.

“Everything about us as a team and the shape we set up in helped to nullify a really good team.

“Having gone 2-0 up, I thought we looked sharp on the break. We got two good opportunities in the first half, and we took them. We then went in at half-time very comfortable.”

With Town having executed their game plan in the first half to near perfection, Charlton came out in the second half a different animal.

Lee Bowyer’s men made all five substitutions in a bid to snatch something from the game – and it could have been all three points if second-half change, Connor Washington had found the back of the net instead of the side with the last kick of the game.

Sheridan was annoyed that his side didn’t manage the game better when they were under the pump, calling his players naïve during a chaotic second 45 at the Valley.

He said: “They’re a team I know with a big, big squad and some good, good players – especially attacking-wise.

“They brought them all on in the second half, and I knew it would be tough with them coming at us.

“But I feel we should have managed the game a lot, lot better than we did. We’re very naïve in some of the things we do, and we could have even lost it right at the end.

“To go home with a point is good, but I’m very disappointed with the way we went about it in the second half.”
