SWINDON Town manager John Sheridan says his team’s performance during their 2-0 defeat to Plymouth Argyle was worrying and they deserved exactly what they got.

A goal either side of half-time from Panutche Camara and Ryan Hardie gave Ryan Lowe’s men a deserved victory in Wiltshire and piled further pressure on manager John Sheridan.

Town never looked like scoring throughout and were a shadow of the side that matched Ipswich Town, and Charlton Athletic in recent times.

With very little attacking threat, and the goals continuing to flow at the other end, Sheridan did not attempt to make any excuses for his side’s showing.

The 56-year-old simply said the performance against Argyle worried him, especially due to the fact the players are acutely aware the club is in a relegation battle.

Sheridan said: “It was a poor performance. We didn’t deserve anything from the game.

“I’ve come out a few times since I’ve been here, and I’ve often felt that we’ve deserved a lot more in games than we’ve got when we’ve been beaten.

“But tonight’s performance was a worrying performance to me in the way we went about the game.

“We know what position we’re in. If I go back to the last three performances, against three really good teams, I felt we did really well in those games.

“But tonight is why managers beat themselves up so much.”

After a run of games where Town hardly disgraced themselves, defeat to Argyle was reminiscent of the heavy defeat to MK Dons a month ago.

Swindon had just four shots at goal all evening, while just one forced Argyle goalkeeper Mike Cooper into a save.

That effort from Diallang Jaiyesimi was not until midway through the second half either, and Sheridan was extremely disappointed to see such a timid performance from his players on home turf.

He said: “We’ve come out in a home game against Plymouth – who are a good team and they’ve played 3-5-2 for a long time. They’re good at it, so I knew it would be a tough game.

“But I expect us to perform a lot, lot better. We’re the home team, so I expect us to take the game to the opposition.

“I don’t think we really got going from start to finish.

“Again, the type of goals we concede are really getting a bit of a joke now.

“I didn’t say too much after the game – I could have been in the changing room for hours and hours.”
