ADVER Sport reporter Jonny Leighfield gives his view on the latest stories to come out of Swindon Town Football Club.

At the end of another disappointing week on and off the field, I thought it was worth looking on the bright side - especially with Valentine’s Day (and Shrove Tuesday) coming up.

On Thursday, Adver Sport published the Swindon Town Supporters’ Trust’s open letter to respective and future owners of Swindon Town Football Club that called for honesty, clarity and above all, communication with the fan base.

The Trust’s open letter also followed a request from the Official Supporters Club for answers regarding the sale of Diallang Jaiyesimi and the true state of the club’s finances.

Following a long period of silence from Town recently, Thursday lunchtime saw an open letter from CEO Steve Anderson published by the club.

Although the letter did not directly respond to either supporter group’s message and contained very little new information, for me, it was a step in the right direction.

I see little point in point-scoring or belittling the club for finally speaking out - instead I prefer to thank Swindon Town for at least updating the fans on why season ticket details have not been published yet.

It stops futile and baseless theories from being banded about and says: “we do care about you, there isn’t much to say, but here’s where we are.”

As a supporter myself, I know I appreciate that take.

On the pitch, results and performances have been highly underwhelming this past week.

Yes, a change in manager would likely improve results in the short term, but it’s also vital everyone thinks about the long-term future of the club too.

The two are not mutually exclusive, of course, but I’m referring to the general running of the club and the relationship it has with the people that help fund it.

If Town continue talking, there will be brighter days ahead.
