SWINDON Town’s League One encounter with Accrington Stanley on Saturday is not one the County Ground outfit should be fearing, according to manager John Sheridan.

Sheridan is set to take his team up to Lancashire to take on a Stanley side that have impressed many on-lookers this season, and as a result, John Coleman’s men still have a decent shot at making the play-offs.

Town and Accrington are experiencing contrasting seasons, but the form book has the County Ground outfit down as slight favourites due to two defeats in Swindon’s previous five compared with a four-game winless run for Stanley in that time.

As a result, the Town chief is bullish about his side’s chances at the Crown Ground – a stadium where Swindon have historically endured mixed fortunes in their previous three trips.

Sheridan said: “We go to Accrington – which is a really tough place to go – but while we’re playing well, we feel we can go there and win.

“I think John Coleman is one of the best managers in the league – he does a brilliant job every year. I know they’ve lost a couple of games recently, but they’re having an excellent season.

“They’re strong, they’ve got men in the team, and they’ve still got hopes of the play-offs. It will be a very hard game for us, but we’ll got there after a good performance against Sunderland believing we can go and get something.”

Town’s trip up to the Crown Ground will see the club having travelled almost 1000 miles in the space of six days – a feat that is sure to have a considerable effect on even the most diligently-prepared team.

Therefore, Sheridan revealed he may be forced to reintroduce some of his returning men straight into the starting XI in order to avoid excess fatigue in players who have featured regularly over the past week or two.

The Town boss said: “The travelling combined with the games coming Saturday-Tuesday does make it hard for the players.

“We travelled back from Sunderland straight away and didn’t get back until 4am, and we’re travelling back up north on Friday.

“I’ve had to decide what I feel is the best way to deal with the players to avoid fatigue and get us a good performance on Saturday.

“But we’ll also have a few players back fit. Joel Grant, Jordan Lyden, Tyler Smith and Akin Odimayo will be fit for Saturday, so we’ll have players there – if I have to change the team, hopefully those players take their chance.”
