SWINDON Town assistant manager Tommy Wright said the gap in quality between his team and Peterborough United was “massive” after Posh won 3-0 at the County Ground on Saturday.

Siriki Dembele scored twice with a pair of quality moments in the first half before Jonson Clarke-Harris made up for his earlier penalty miss by smashing home a late third for the promotion chasers.

It could have been worse for Town too if not for the performance of Lee Camp, who made four or five excellent saves from Dembele, Clarke-Harris, and Joe Ward.

But of the three goals that did go in, Wright was bitterly disappointed with the first two in particular as Swindon had more than enough bodies behind the ball to deal with it, according to the Town assistant.

He said: “I think the gap between the sides was massive.

“Peterborough have scored a lot of goals this season, and you can see why, but we’re disappointed in the goals we conceded. We didn’t make them work for the goals – the first two were schoolboy errors.

“But we started quite well, we had good possession of the ball, but it’s been a problem all season where we’ve conceded poor goals. We had men back for both goals in positions that didn’t seem to do a lot.

“We’re utterly disappointed with the goals we conceded, but we have to keep going because we’ve got a massive, massive game for us and for Rochdale on Tuesday.”

Town travel to the Crown Oil Arena in midweek knowing full well they could all but relegate Rochdale with a victory while also breathing life into their own survival battle.

But if they are to taste success, Swindon will have to put in a far better defensive performance than they did on Saturday, according to the Scot.

Wright said: “To be fair, we have got some good players at the club. I know it’s negative today, but we have got some good players and we have to try and be confident.

“We have to stop giving these poor, poor goals away. I don’t think teams have to work hard enough to score against us, and that’s the disappointing thing.

“We’re playing Peterborough, who have a great goal-scoring record, but their goals, they didn’t really have to work for it.

“The first goal – we must have had eight players around the ball and he still gets a free run on goal. We have to cut that out – you don’t have to be Pep Guardiola to realise that.”
