THE Bespoke Guardians Swindon Wildcats have announced Chris Jones and Stevie Whitfield will be re-signing for the club next season.

The Link Centre outfit continued its returnee announcements by revealing both the classy Welsh forward, Jones, and consistent defenceman, Whitfield would be sticking around for another year.

Jones only arrived in 2017 but has had a huge impact on the ice, scoring 91 goals and notching 138 assists in 155 games.

During his time in the EIHL, Jones has won the EIHL Cup twice, the Erhardt conference twice, and in the 16-17 season he helped the team win the EIHL title.

In the title winning season the Welsh forward’s 77 points in 54 games also saw Jones awarded the player of the year award for the whole league.

Speaking to club media after confirming Jones’ return, head coach Aaron Nell highlighted the importance he has within his team: “CJ really is a massive part of the team in Swindon and I’m delighted to have him signed up for the new season.

“Since coming here four years ago he’s been such a valuable part of our forward unit, I’ve lost count of the amount of important goals he’s scored for us.”

Meanwhile, the Cats confirmed long-serving Whitfield would be given his testimonial match at the end of the next campaign after a 10-season stint in Wiltshire.

Nell said: “Stevie is the Wildcats, he’s a player who’s come through the local academy and broken into our senior team after time with the development Wildcats. Since he made his debut he’s grown into a vital part of the team and the locker-room. The fans love his work ethic and his work rate rubs off on the other players around him.

“I’m delighted at the end of this deal we’ll be able celebrate his time in Swindon properly. He really deserves this, and after some recent testimonials for Lee Richardson and Sam Bullas I’m excited to see Stevie have the night he deserves as well.”
